I use photography to tell stories.  Not to reflect what one may expect from a place or event, but to challenge the way the viewer perceives the world. Not to comfort and affirm assumptions, but to provoke and complicate places and issues.  My work aims to bring to light the complexities of the world around me.

This grandmother called me into her compound as I was walking by in Duk Payuel, a village in South Sudan. She encouraged me to take her picture as she sat on the ground in front of her grass thatched hut. The darkness behind her was the door to the hut.
